A crack in a boom is not a cosmetic problem. Structure carries load, and a repair that closes the visible crack without addressing why it cracked will open again in the same place, usually under load.
Structural work means preparing the joint properly, welding it to hold, and looking at what caused it. A weld that lasts is slower to do than a weld that looks finished.

- Can a cracked boom be repaired, or does it need replacing?
- Frequently it can be repaired. Whether it should be depends on where the crack is and what caused it — that judgement needs eyes on the machine rather than a phone call.
- Will the repair be as strong as the original?
- A properly prepared and welded structural joint is intended to carry the load the component was designed for. What matters as much is addressing the cause, since a repair that ignores it will crack again.
- Can you weld onsite?
- Yes. Structural work is regularly done in the field. Position and access decide whether a particular joint can be welded well where it sits.
